The details are very important but once we start working, we'll never know how much time will take to finish each of them or the whole art work. All that counts in the end, is your art and what you feel about it. Thanks for shearing.

I applaud your journey into the old Master's classical approach to painting. I too found myself reading many resources to understand this process, Antonov's included. I found a lot of help on a website that is a wealth of knowledge. The site focusing mostly on portraits but it is transferrable to still life. Check it out--http:karenwells.blogspot.com

Wow, now that I have finished this painting and changed the facial features to be more accurate, it's a lot easier to see what's wrong with this one! Although sometimes it seems like one thing is off, but it's really something else or a combo of a lot of things, for example an eye could seem in the wrong place but it might actually be the nose and eyebrow. On this one it was pretty much everything - mouth, eye, and nose :)

Thanks! I use a lot of small flat brushes, I think they are 1/16 but the numbers rubbed off on the main ones so I'm not sure. For small details, like the eyes, the smallest I am using is a 5/0 round. On this one I was planning on glazing some color on, although I made it too dark I think. I often glaze over a mono underpainting when I am painting faces on panel, but paint more directly when I am painting on canvas. Still experimenting with different techniques though :)

Amazing! How small are your brushes??
I love the combination of vibrant blue and yellow hues with monochrome background :) Do you glaze or paint wet in wet?
